BIOGRAPHY

Eccentric Pendulum is a progressive metal band formed in November 2008, owing to the amalgamation of musical ideas exchanged by its founding members. The band was initially formed by Arun (ex-Extinct Reflections), Vibhas (ex-Spitfire), Ashish (ex- Inner Sanctum, Spit) and Nikhil (ex-Asylum).

Having played in the local circuit for a few years with their past projects, the quartet aimed at composing songs which were inspired by their varied love for the different genres and sub-genres of music, while keeping progressive metal at the heart of it.

The band slowly and steadily started garnering respect and popularity in the local scene for their ability to engage audiences and appeal to their intellectual side through their live performances. In March 2009, the band released their debut EP titled ‘The Sculptor of Negative Emotions’.

In August 2009, the band welcomed Faheem as their lead guitarist to help extend its musical boundaries. The highlight of 2009 came shortly after when the band was chosen to play at the Deccan Rock Festival alongside heavyweights like Textures and Amon Amarth.

In 2010, Ashish decided to pursue his higher studies in France and the band welcomed Arjun Mulky.

Towards the end of the year, the band took part in the Wacken Metal Battle and was chosen to play at the prestigious Wacken Open Air Festival in 2011. This allowed the band to promote and release its debut full-length ‘Winding The Optics’ in Europe.

By the end of 2011, Faheem decided to part ways with the band citing musical differences. Using and building the contacts built by the band in 2011, the band embarked on it’s second Europe tour. This time spanning 15 days across 6 countries, the band played shows in Spain, France and a played the SWR Metal-Fest in Barroselas, Portugal alongside heavy weights like Immortal, Asphyx, Gorod and Candlemass.

The band also supported the likes of Gojira, Kreator, Meshuggah, Orphaned Land, Opeth and Karnivool on all their Indian tours.

2015 was another turning point in the band’s career when Nikhil decided to go to Canada and pursue his higher studies. The band welcome not one, but two new members. Kaushal from local prog metallers Orchid and Ankit from thrash metal band Theorized. Ankit, who was already an active part of the band due to his immense contribution in recording and releasing both of the band’s albums, was a natural fit.

The band used this new lineup to release a single titled ‘Resisting Another Equation’, which came out on Transcending Obscurity records in 2016.

2017 also marked an important era for the band as they prepped and released their epic 17-minute long saga in the form of an EP, titled ‘Tellurian Concepts’. This was the band’s first DIY attempt, having recorded drums, guitars, bass and vocals at the band’s studios. This EP saw varied collaborations, right from Bruce LaMont (Yakuza, Brain Tentacles) on saxophone to Michael Manring on fretless bass [Hyperbass] to local hero Tony Das on lead guitar. The EP was mixed by Ankit Suryakanth and mastered by progressive metal wizard Colin Marston at The Thousand Caves Studio in NYC.

The band is now prepping for it’s second full-length, titled ‘Perspectiva Invertalis’. This album will feature 7 tracks across varied different styles, in true Eccentric flavour. Right from technical death metal to slow drone layered parts, fast dizzying sections to calm abstract sections, the album picks up right where ‘Winding The Optics’ left off. Apart from the urge of playing live, the band is, as always, exploring new sounds to appeal to their auditory senses and is in no mood to not leave any stone unturned to stick true to their name of burden, Eccentric Pendulum.
